Our Story

Inspired by Dr. Bob’s passion and tenacity, Tim Gueramy, MD, a fellow orthopedic surgeon and entrepreneur, wanted to help realize Dr. Bob’s goal and pay it forward to other aspiring “Doctorpreneurs”. Founder and CEO of DocbookMD, Tim, and his co-founder, Dr. Tracey Haas, had been approached by many medical colleagues for advice about starting their own business or launching a new idea. With this momentum, the Walters Physician Incubator was born in August, 2012. Starting as an informal physicians-only support group of sorts, the incubator began to attract world-class speakers, business leaders, and investors for the physician members to collaborate with. By early 2014, WPI (a 501©3 organization) had over 100 physician members from around the country and is sponsored by The Texas Orthopedic Association, the Texas Medical Association, and Texas Medical Liability Trust. WPI also partners with Atomic Axis for website and technical support..

The Walters Physician Incubator mission is to help physicians at any stage develop business ideas and take them to the next level, whatever that may be. tWe understand the challenges unique to the physician entrepreneur, and value our secure, trusted network of colleagues who vow to keep ideas confidential while supporting each other to the best of our abilities.

Dr. Robert M. Walters

Robert M. Walters, MD, or Dr. Bob to those who knew him, was a highly-respected orthopedic hand surgeon who served the Greater Austin Community for 27 years. Known to give his personal phone number to patients and colleagues alike, he was loved by all.

What many may not have known about him is that for years Dr. Bob had been perfecting a procedure to help patients with arthritic thumb pain. He had completed the necessary work to file a patent just two days before he passed away unexpectedly in 2010.

Timothy C Gueramy, MD
Chief Executive Officer, Co-Founder

Tim Gueramy MD, DocbookMD Founder and CEO first found his passion for the field of medicine from his father who is also a surgeon. Though Tim always had an interest in technology, it was no surprise that he would end up studying biology, and ultimately, medicine. After receiving his Bachelors of Science from the University of Michigan, he moved to Dublin, Ireland, where he worked in the Anatomy Department of the Royal College of Surgeons and developed the first interactive histology program – still used by students as a learning tool. Shortly thereafter, he completed his M.D. at Wayne State University.

Tracey A Haas, DO, MPH
Chief Medical Officer Co-Founder

Tracey Haas, DO, MPH was drawn to medicine as a way to combine her love of adventure, science and care for the underserved around the world. Always with a focus on international experience, she studied biology and German at Southwest Texas State, where she graduated summa cum laude. She studied medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX, and after completing her residency in Portland, Maine, became Board Certified in Family Medicine. Tracey decided to take on the world when she made the move to Austin, Texas, and continue to pursue opportunities to care for those most in need in Texas and around the world. After a month-long medical trip to India in 2006, she decided to take her medical training a bit further in Tropical Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland and also earned an MPH in Global Health at the University of Texas Health and Science Center. She has used this training to work in India, Haiti, Libya and all over Texas. Tracey was the winner of the Austin Under 40 Healthcare Category in 2011. Today Tracey works full-time as the Chief Medical Officer of DocbookMD, and continues to seek ways to apply technology to the care for those in the farthest reaches of the world.
